![]() The Dominican Republic Medical Partnership (DRMP) of Village Church has provided nearly 25 years of healthcare and health education to children and adults living in the impoverished bateys (communities of Haitian sugarcane workers and their families) in the Dominican Republic. We promote sustainable healthcare efforts with our Dominican partner organizations.
DRMP provides medical care, ongoing hypertension management, and life-changing surgeries. Our health education programs focus on topics such as disease prevention and good nutrition. The ultimate goal of the DRMP is to provide life-saving healthcare and health education that people need in order to break free from the cycle of poverty. Village Church supports this because access to quality healthcare is not limited to our nation's borders but only by our own sense of justice and compassion. The DRMP's mission is shaped by the gospel that bids us to love our neighbors, both near and far, as we love ourselves. COVID-19 IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC The DRMP is incredibly proud of and humbled by the extraordinary efforts of our Dominican-based partner organization, Fundación Enciende Una Luz (Light A Candle Foundation) throughout the COVID-19 crisis. The current situation in the DR is grim with very little access to health care, mandatory curfews, lack of PPE supplies, food shortages, the shutdown of public transportation and more. In spite of these enormous hurdles, Light A Candle is going above and beyond in their efforts to serve multiple batey communities by providing hypertenstion medication to all of their patients, delivering food on a regular basis to everyone in the batey communities, and distributing children's vitamins peanut butter to all the children living in these bateys. Please take a moment to watch these beautiful videos of Light A Candle distributing hypertension medication, food and masks to batey residents. |
