Adult Sunday Morning Classes
The Faith Journey class welcomes adults of all ages as we share our respective journeys through book studies, guest speakers and videos to explore new perspectives and examine our own beliefs on a variety of topics including contemporary issues, theology and Bible studies. Fall studies will include discussion of “No Cure for Being Human: (And Other Truths I Need to Hear),” by Kate Bowler and “Where the Light Fell: A Memoir,” by Philip Yancey. Facilitated by Kathy Ray.

Foundations of Faith journeys through history to discover the roots of our faith. Combining science, history and archaeology with the Bible, our class welcomes all seekers. This class also offers videos and guest speakers including Rev. Dwight Tawney whenever possible. Fall studies will begin with a discussion of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and the ethical dimensions of developing technology, followed by sessions on Alexander the Great and his extraordinary influence on Western culture. Village Forum is a lively class that welcomes adults of all ages. Fall studies begin on Sept. 17 with a four-week discussion on “Religion and Popular Culture” led by Dr. Leslie Dorrough Smith, associate professor of religious studies at Avila University. Two classes follow from a series called “The Church As/Is Christ,” that will be sprinkled through the year. We will learn about Village’s new committee Building Beloved Community on Oct. 15 and the Higgins Brothers Haiti Mission on Oct. 22. In November, we will discuss a new video series from the work of Marcus Borg. Facilitated by Jim Gibson and Rev. Jay McKell.

Adult Sunday Morning Class at Antioch will discuss two books this fall season. From Sept. 17-Oct. 15, we will discuss “Hitting the Ground Running: The Gospel of Mark.” From Oct. 22- Nov. 19, we will discuss “The Art(s) of Faith: How Art and Theology Shape Us and Each Other.” Facilitated by Rev. Anna Owens and several guest teachers.
