The season of Lent in the Christian year begins with Ash Wednesday and ends with Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday. The word “Lent” comes from the Old English word “lencten” which refers to the lengthening daylight of the spring season. It is 40 days not counting the Sundays between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday. Lent is a time of contemplation and preparation for the days of Holy week leading up the arrest, torture, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. During this time, we are invited to engage in practices that will help shape our lives as we journey with Jesus to the cross and the empty tomb.
