Pixar Animation Studios is an American computer animation studio that has produced 27 feature films and has won numerous awards and recognitions. Ultimately, Pixar is known for finding and developing great stories and using computer animation to tell them. The Gospel (gospel means “good news”) of Jesus Christ is the great story of Jesus of Nazareth who shared the good news of God’s love for all and helped people love God and love each other. The story of Jesus has changed the world. In this preaching series, Rev. Dr. Rodger Nishioka will explore how four Pixar films (Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Inside Out, Up) demonstrate Jesus’ Gospel truths for our lives of faith today.

Today we turn to Pixar's “Up." The Gospel story is ultimately a love story of God’s love shown in Jesus Christ. After Jesus completes his public ministry on earth, he goes to heaven. From there the Gospel takes a turn from holding on to Jesus to letting him go and moving forward with his commission to “Go into all the world and make disciples…” Our scripture reading is Luke 24:44-53.

Today we turn to Pixar's “Inside Out." Jesus loved Lazarus and Martha and Mary. When their brother Lazarus takes ill, sisters Mary and Martha send for Jesus, but he does not come right away. By the time he arrives, Lazarus has died and Martha, Mary and many others blame Jesus, and Jesus grieves his death. Part of what it means to be family is to be sad together. Our scripture reading is John 11:28-36.

Today we turn to Pixar's "Toy Story." Jesus calls us his friends because we do what he has commanded us to do. To be a friend is a wonderful gift, which is why it is so painful when a friendship is lost. Our scripture reading is John 15:12-17.
