Hillcrest Transitional Housing
In 2014, Village Presbyterian Church began sponsoring an apartment in conjunction with Hillcrest Transitional Housing offering homeless families, singles and youth a disciplined, educational program with a caring, supportive environment. Unlike many organizations whose focus is one-time or emergency care, Hillcrest’s primary objective is to move clients from homelessness to self-sufficiency within 90 days by addressing the total life situation of the homeless families they serve.
In exchange for rent/utility-free housing, adults are required by written agreement to find full-time employment, obey program guidelines and attend weekly volunteer-taught classes in life skills, employment, community living and budgeting.
In addition to sponsoring an apartment, Village Church provided money to Hillcrest for the purchase of its first four apartments in Johnson County located at 9306 Bluejacket in Overland Park. With our apartment sponsorship, Village Church helped with the initial furnishing of the residence and we now stock and provide a welcome meal when the apartment turns over to a new family.
