I Believe. Help My Unbelief.
Nov. 3-17, 2019

Church should be about the big things in your life and heart. It should be about joy and failure, about social struggles like poverty and racism, about ultimate questions like forgiveness and heaven. These are not questions that we face individually. God intended that there be a church because we cannot explore these questions apart from community. But it’s not just any community. This is the body of Christ.

Because of the size of the issues and the expectations of our calling, Christian faith is always something that we will embrace with a degree of question or wonder. We will never move from a place of I believe, help my unbelief to a place of I believe 100%. Unbelief is a given with this gospel. Rev. Tom Are preaches this series.

Because He Lives
Because He Lives
Nov. 17, 2019 - Rev. Tom Are
In the last sermon in the series “I Believe. Help My Unbelief,” Rev. Tom Are preaches about Paul’s conversation about the resurrection. Paul clearly understands that the resurrection of Christ is not simply a factor that speaks to life after death. No, the fact that Christ is alive reshapes life here and now. As we grow in faith and faithfulness, as we engage in the ministry and mission of the church, we are being resurrected. Our scripture reading is 1 Corinthians 16:1-8.

What Does Love Look Like?
Nov. 10, 2019 - Rev. Tom Are
In part two of the sermon series “I Believe. Help My Unbelief,” Rev. Tom Are turns to Peter. Peter and Jesus shared a resurrection breakfast. The topic of conversation was feeding sheep who were hungry all the time. Peter wasn’t always good at that, but he was good enough that, at times, folks felt like Jesus was still with them. Sometimes our care for one another is so genuine, it seems like Jesus is in the room. Our scripture reading is John 21:15-19.

Nov. 3, 2019 - Rev. Tom Are
Rev. Tom Are begins the sermon series, “I Believe. Help My Unbelief.” This is a prayer Rev. Are uses every Sunday. We trust that God is never intimidated by our wondering. Not only this, but we also confess that Christian faith invites us to trust that which is so large, so transformational, that it is never easily believed without at least a hint of unbelief. Our scripture reading is Mark 9:14-29.
