Hello Village Church,
And a good Friday to you. It is good to see you. I hope you are doing well. I hope you've had a good week.
Hey, I am reminded that even for those of us who have long since been out of school, this next week is the last full week of the school year, and that sort of has a rhythm to it and it affects us all. We're also on the verge, of course, on Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer. So it feels like things are changing and we're getting to our summer season.
Before that, though, this Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. This is a Sunday when we remember the great story of Pentecost, the celebration of Pentecost. Fifty days after Passover, Jewish people from all over the world gather in Jerusalem, and at that point, the Holy Spirit descends upon the disciples and calls them into being as the church of Jesus Christ.
We call Pentecost the birthday of the church, so that's why I'm wearing this red stole. I encourage you on Sunday to wear reds or yellows or oranges because the story says the fire of the Holy Spirit came into the room where the disciples were gathered and dwells upon each of them and calls them out to be the church of Jesus Christ. It's our birthday, so I look forward to seeing you on the church's birthday when we celebrate Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit to us all.
Hey friends, then Memorial Day weekend is upon us, the unofficial start of summer, and we launch into a summer season. We've got a new preaching series titled "Table Graces," where every sermon's going to talk about a passage of the Bible that involves a table in some way, feasting in some way, sharing a meal in some way. Looking forward to that sermon series. I'll be sharing that with our other associate pastors. I am delighted to have such a cadre of amazing, faithful teachers and preachers and pastors with us.
Hey, friends, I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, whether online or in person. As always, the Lord be with you. And Happy Birthday, Church! See you on Sunday.
