meet this year's creations by kids teachersCathy Gardner is excited to be back at Village for summer camp this year. Cathy currently teaches early childhood special ed for the Blue Valley school district, prior to that, she taught preschool at Village! Cathy loves preschoolers, and can’t wait for all the fun we have planned this summer.
Anne Huxtable has her Early Childhood/Elementary Education degree and has taught at Village for six years, after 24 years at Shawnee Presbyterian. She loves her family time, cheering on Sporting KC, creating art, and reading to preschoolers. Anne is excited to teach camp with her daughter Amy again this summer. Amy Huxtable is an Art Therapist at the KU Health System (Marillac Campus) and a freelance graphic designer. She has nine years of experience working with children and adolescents in a variety of educational, recreational, and therapeutic settings. She has taught several years at Village with her mom during the summer camps. Megan Evans is a graduate of the University of Tulsa with a degree in Elementary Education. She currently teaches 4th grade in the Spring Hill school district and is an alumni of Village Preschool. She has worked for several years at the Village Summer Camps, usually with her mom, Debbie Spurlin. Megan has two boys, almost 4 and almost 2, and really appreciates the chance to work with younger children at camp now that she is experiencing life with her own. Debbie Spurlin has taught at Village Preschool for 30 years prior to retiring in 2018 to take care of her grandsons. She has been with the summer camp program since its inception in 2004 and looks forward each year to the interaction with the kids and their families. Debbie has a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Iowa State University. She is looking forward to teaching with her daughter. Mary van Thullenar, Village Preschool’s ‘Movement with Mary’ teacher, will be a camp leader for her ninth summer. She enjoys teaching children how to move and be healthy. Mary is a 1992 KSU Graduate in Elementary Education. She feels blessed to have found Village Preschool as a parent of her two children, then became a preschool teacher, after a year off she is now Village’s Movement and Music teacher. Debbie Smith is the director of Creations by Kids Summer Camp. She has a BS in Art from Baker University. “I have been blessed to work with Village Preschool for 30 years and the summer camps for 18 years. My passion is helping children nurture their creative spirit. It has been a gift to experience the wonders of God’s world through the eyes of children.” Happy creating!
