ADULT ARTWORK
Gadine Acton
For several years, I’ve been part of the Village Church Continuing Watercolor class and can hardly wait until we can safely attend class again! I really enjoy working with watercolors – love the colors, love the challenges, and sometimes, even the happy little accidents. But one thing the pandemic taught me is this: it’s more fun to paint with others. I need that interaction. I learn much from each instructor as well as from my classmates. It’s been a wonderful experience, and I’m grateful.

I am a featured, western artist of Montana. Inspiration for many of my paintings comes from Judith Basin County in North Central Montana where my grandparents homesteaded in 1892. I paint with watercolors, acrylics, oils, and do graphite pencil drawings. I’ve also painted in Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, New Mexico, Arizona, and Arkansas. I enjoy painting with watercolors, acrylics, oils and doing graphite pencil drawings.

As an artist my true passions are watercolor and Urban Sketching. My painting experiences have enriched my life so much, especially this last year! Having taught in public schools and at the Nelson Atkins Museum of art, combining 30+ years, I am now teaching art classes overseas. If you are interested in learning about art trips for 2022, check out www.alpinecreativetours.com. Thanks to Village Church for the opportunity to share some of
my paintings. |

I have had a lifelong interest in arts and crafts. My grandmother took up oil painting after she retired from teaching and got me started painting. In high school, I tried acrylic paints and did a lot of sewing. During college, I did embroidery and counted cross stitch, while pursuing a degree in Medical Technology. When my own children started school, I pursued a degree in Graphic Design where I had to paint and draw some of my projects. Two years ago, I signed up for the Village U watercolor class. Now I am encouraging my granddaughter in art and craft projects.

Marsha Hansen
I have always loved nature. . . mountains, lakes, or the empty field down the road. I am completely distracted while being attracted to colors and textures. Yarns, pieces from nature, and scraps to repurpose are my preferred materials when inspiration strikes.

Amy Hinrichs
Amy stumbled across pen and watercolor technique in 2017 and found she liked the emotion conveyed through the lines and color. Amy was also drawn to illustrations for children’s books. As she played with the medium and designs, she discovered she could combine them to produce a work of art full of expression while keeping the picture uncomplicated. Her work can be found on Society6 and Fine Art America under Amy Hinrichs.

I am a retired journalist, editor, and communications manager and I have enjoyed drawing and painting since childhood. But the past year of COVID-19 has sparked my creativity and renewed interest. Acrylics are my favorite medium as I capture images from my travels, childhood, nature, and vivid imagination.

During the pandemic we have all had to come up with some creative ways to entertain ourselves and I found enjoyment right from my living room. There is a tree right outside my window and I started noticing a variety of birds that have been there all along, but it was only in the past year that I have I taken notice. Photography has been a Godsend for me during these isolated times. I go out regularly with my camera and enjoy walking in the woods, breathing the wonderful fragrances of nature, and capturing a photo of any type of wildlife. I hope you enjoy a few of the images I have captured.

My husband and I loved to explore the beauty of these United States. We were campers and our souvenirs were the pictures we took. I am no longer a camper, but I still love to travel, and with the advent of digital photography, my collection of “souvenirs” has greatly expanded. Since I am now retired, I have enjoyed the beauty of more countries than the United States and love to share these experiences (and souvenirs) with others. I am an amateur photographer who loves to travel. Instead of buying souvenirs, I take pictures. I would love to share with you some of my favorite pictures from around the world! These photographs are from: Africa, Italy, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Scotland, Canada. Please enjoy!

It sometimes seems I’ve been doing artwork most of my life, but truth be told, the newspaper first accepted my work when I was 3. When I was in commercial art, I worked with most all of the studios, agencies, and businesses that Kansas City had. I have come to the conclusion, that while I consider myself an artist, my wife is more artistic.

Making collage has instilled in me a love of seeing the possibility in the ordinary and seeing the potentially extraordinary in humble bits and pieces. There is a certain energy in the cycle of repurposing materials: paper, bits of nature, the flotsam and jetsam of everyday life. Through layering and careful fittings these parts can form into a new whole and in these moments of play I find great joy. I am inspired by the shore, its colors, the tides and cycles and its connection to universal ebb and flow. I am grateful for this special opportunity to share my art with my Village Church family. – “Life is pure adventure, and the sooner we realize that the quicker we will be able to treat life as art.” – Maya Angelou

I am a retired educator and art has long been one of my main interests. As a student at William Jewell College, I studied French Pallett painting and entered several art shows. I became interested in photography after I retired and began to travel. I have displayed my photographs in many art shows and shared them in travelogues in the greater Kansas City area.

I am retired and now enjoy painting. I try to paint by viewing nature and identifying the essentials and eliminating the unnecessary to create an emotional impact.
