Pastoral Care and Counseling
Email Sara Pedram for an updated prayer list
The Care and Counseling Department of Village Church provides support, guidance, and counsel for all members experiencing a personal crisis whether for physical, emotional, or spiritual reasons. The department is organized to respond within 24 hours to any request for care. Short term counseling is offered by appointment and appropriate referral service is provided for persons needing psychotherapeutic help.
The ministry sponsors support groups that meet regularly, addressing a wide variety of topics. Please call our office for more information and for dates and times of meetings.
Call the Care and Counseling Office to report hospitalization, illness, or death. The church’s main telephone 913-262-4200 is answered 24 hours a day.
Pastoral Care Ministries
▪Stephen Ministry: Stephen Ministers are caring, supportive Christian people who have a desire to be with you in times of crisis, grieving or need. Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of intensive training in many helping skills and provide a meaningful way for our Parish Team to provide and extend an active, ongoing, caring ministry for the people of our parish community. Visit the Stephen Ministry page for more information.
▪Respite Care Ministry: Respite care offers support to family caregivers so they may take a short break from their daily responsibilities in caring for a loved one. “Respite” is a time of rest, relief and renewal of one’s spirit, strength and energy. Visits from a trained respite care volunteer also provide friendship, companion-level assistance and reassurance to those who are care receivers. For more information, contact: Gayle Yelenik, 913-671-2370.
▪Village Visitors: It is important to stay connected. Many members of our church family are unable to regularly attend worship on Sunday for health or other reasons. Village Visitors are volunteers who take time each month to visit our homebound members, sharing with them the love of Christ and reminding them that the family of faith values them.
Village Visitors visit in homes to pray and be present, to laugh and listen. Interested in becoming a Village Visitor or know someone who could use a visit? Contact Rev. Meg Peery McLaughlin, 913-671-2369.
